Plus Size Women’s Motorcycle Gear

Welcome to my page of Plus Size Gear options for women who ride motorcycles. This will be a work in progress but I’ve decided to put together my favorites which also include gear that I’ve been able to size for women in person while working in the RevZilla Philadelphia Showroom. Please note that these options are all Women’s Specific Gear.

what does this mean?

Generally speaking, the definition of Plus Sizes in Fashion is typically above a US 14. Since “average” women’s clothes sizes are supposedly 4-14, anything over 14, so 16-20+ is typically defined as Plus Size.

However, if you are a woman, you know that these definitions sometimes don’t mean anything at all. In the fashion world, there are finally lots of cool, stylish and beautiful clothes all the way up to 26-28? From what I can tell, that took a really, really long time to get to this point and I’m sure that there is still much more to go.

In the motorcycle world, it’s most definitely behind. I wish I had a plethora of options to share, but as of the creation of this page (September 2020), these are the only options I have been able to find while working at RevZilla. I hope they help and please let me know if you have any questions on fitment or sizing.

On this page, I’m going to recommend my very favorites and the best options that I’ve personally been able to fit while working in this industry over the past decade. If you have any other suggestions, please let me know!

JACKETS - SUMMER/SPRING

These will offer big mesh panels and primary comfort in the Summer. When you have a mesh outer, you know that wearing a liner will help, but it will never be ideal as a true Winter jacket, because the mesh shell can’t do any wind blocking the way that a waterproof shell or rain jacket on top can.

Tourmaster Sonora Air In addition to regular sizes, XS-XL, this is offered in Plus S-XL. I’ve had great luck with this jacket, and in a Plus XL I have been able to size a woman with a 51” chest and 50” waist. It’s one of my favorite go to’s in this …

Tourmaster Sonora Air In addition to regular sizes, XS-XL, this is offered in Plus S-XL. I’ve had great luck with this jacket, and in a Plus XL I have been able to size a woman with a 51” chest and 50” waist. It’s one of my favorite go to’s in this category. It’s a summer weight, mesh jacket with removable liners for Summer/Spring/Fall riding. This one has a nice long cut, (see the big square pockets) in the front and the back. The Plus sizes are ideal if you are less than 5’5” or so and don’t want to size up because the sleeves and length will be too long. For example, you’re 5’3”, with a 50” Chest, 48” Waist and “46.5 Hips; you’ll fit a Plus SM. Because essentially this size will be much larger to accommodate your bust/waist size without having to size up up up to XL.

Olympia Eve As of right now, this jacket is difficult to find. You might find inventory on various websites, or you may not find any at all. Olympia inventory is impossible to find right now, and I can’t tell you where to find it. I’m hoping this jacket isn’t discontinued forever and will come back because it was slightly better than the Sonora, in my opinion. I found the standard sizes to almost fit like Plus Sizes and was also able to successfully fit a woman with a 51” chest in a 2X. I never got to write down measurements for 3X but I’m confident that I could have sized someone with up to a 53” chest, 53” waist and 53” hip. Fingers crossed, these come back.

JEANS / LEGGINGS

This is a brand new category, especially for plus sizes. Unfortunately you’ll still only see sizes up to a 18-20.

Bull-it Tactical Straight Fit Jeans These are one of the only jeans I’ve found that have a full cut, meaning very full butt room with a high rise (you can see how tall the zipper is in the photo) and fuller hips. They’re pretty lightweight and have a nice all around feel for multiseason riding. Armor can easily be added. Sizes are available in Short and Tall, and they make these in a Slim Fit as well. Since the company is based in the UK, keep in mind that the tags inside the jean will be UK. The size charts list both US and UK sizes, so be sure to order your US size and know that the tag on the inside should be listed 2 sizes smaller as a result. So if you order a US 6, the tag on the inside will read 10. This brand also offers leggings and jeggings in similar sizes and fitments as well, curvy, plus and generous.
